Be Assured of God’s Sovereign Control – Mark 14:53-65
14 (53) They took Jesus to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes assembled together with him. (54) Now Peter had followed Jesus at a distance, going even as far as entering into the courtyard of the high priest. He sat there among the servants, warming himself in the light of the fire. (55) Now the chief priests and the whole council sought evidence against Jesus so that they might put him to death; but they could not find any. (56) Many people gave false testimony against him, but their testimonies did not agree with each other. (57) Then certain men stood up and bore false testimony against him, saying, (58) We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, one that is made without hands. (59) But not even then did their testimonies agree with each other. (60) Then the high priest, standing in the midst of the assembly, asked Jesus, Do you have no response? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you? (61) But he kept quiet and made no reply. Again the high priest asked him, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One? (62) And Jesus said, I am; and you shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven. (63) Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, What further need have we of witnesses? (64) You have heard the blasphemy; what do you think? And they all condemned him as being worthy of death. (65) Some of them began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him, and demanded, Prophesy! Then, as the servants took him away, they beat him.
